Introducing Extract Maker: Revolutionizing Herbal Extract Creation

After years of dedicated work on Plants Research Pro, countless hours experimenting with biomaterial extracts, and months of meticulous planning, we are thrilled to announce the launch of Extract Maker—the most advanced extract-making tool ever created.

A New Era for Extract Making

Extract Maker (EM) is built on a simple yet powerful idea: creating herbal extracts shouldn’t be an obscure art reserved for a select few. It should be an accessible, rewarding practice for everyone. If you’ve ever brewed herbal tea, you’ve made an extract—perhaps without realizing it. But have you ever wondered what happens at the molecular level as hot water interacts with bioactive compounds in the plant? Or how those compounds affect your body? Extract Maker answers many of these questions, demystifying the science and empowering users to create potent, personalized extracts.

Historically, extract making has been challenging, often unscientific, and fraught with issues like inconsistent results, poor standardization, and even toxicity risks. For centuries, herbal extracts were a cornerstone of medical care, but the rise of modern pharmaceuticals—more consistent and often safer—pushed herbal medicine to the sidelines. While this shift was largely positive, synthetic drugs introduced new challenges, including side effects, dependency, and high costs.

In recent years, renewed interest in herbal extracts has sparked a wave of scientific research. From 1950 to 2000, studies on bioactive plants averaged 200–900 per year. However, by 2010, that number surged to around 6,000 annually, and as of 2024 and into 2025 remains in the high thousands. This research, combined with growing enthusiasm for healthy lifestyles and dietary supplements, has fueled the resurgence of extract making.

What is Extract Making?

Extract making is a widely misunderstood and underappreciated art, often cloaked in mystery. It forms the backbone of the supplements industry, yet the term itself is rarely used. Its historical mystique persists, partly because the process is complex and poorly understood, even by practitioners. In the supplements world, the focus is often on commercial products rather than the craft of extraction. But extract making is quietly thriving, woven into the fabric of dietary awareness, healthy living, and sports science. From brewing tea to blending smoothies, many are unknowingly extract makers—yet few grasp the science behind their creations or the potential of the extracts they produce. Extract Maker changes that, providing tools to understand and harness the power of extracts with precision and confidence.

The resurgence of extract making is also driven by growing distrust in commercial extracts. Recent quality control studies have revealed that many commercial extracts suffer from inadequate quality, often due to cost-cutting or lack of scientific expertise. These products can be prohibitively expensive, yet frequently fail to meet quality standards, with no regulatory standardization or penalties in many markets. As a result, some individuals turn to making their own extracts to ensure potency and purity. However, this process can be daunting, requiring extensive research and planning. Extract Maker addresses this challenge by drastically simplifying the planning stage, enabling users to create high-quality extracts at home with relative ease.

The Extract Maker App

Extract Maker is designed to transform how we approach herbal extracts, making them not just a tool for addressing health issues but a pathway to peak physical and cognitive performance using natural materials. Building on insights from Plants Research Pro (released in 2021), we’ve spent years studying plant research and creating our own extracts. This experience shaped Extract Maker, which features four core components:

  1. Advanced Extraction Calculator: Analyzes physical and chemical processes to predict extraction efficiency and concentration for a wide range of biomaterials and their parts.
  2. Personalized Dosage Calculator: Converts research-based dosages from animal or human studies into human-equivalent doses, tailored to body weight and extract concentration.
  3. Comprehensive Biomaterial Database: Includes the most-researched biomaterials, complete with physical, chemical, biological, and research data.
  4. Intuitive User Interface: Streamlines access to these features with minimal effort.

What Extract Maker Delivers

Extract Maker, created with human expertise and AI, achieves three key goals:

  • For Herbalists: Quickly estimate extraction efficiency and potency, saving hours of planning.
  • For Beginners: Calculate the right amount of material for bioactive teas or tinctures, customized to body weight. For instance, the app can determine the precise amount of chamomile needed for a calming tea based on body weight and desired potency.
  • For Explorers: Experiment with new biomaterials for general health and well-being.

Room for Growth

While we’re proud of Extract Maker, we acknowledge areas for improvement:

  • Database Scope: Currently, the app covers around 200 well-researched biomaterials. We’re actively expanding this to include more materials based on the latest research.
  • Material Overviews: Biomaterial descriptions are basic, serving as quick references. Unlike Plants Research Pro, which dives deep into research, Extract Maker focuses on practical use. We plan to enhance these overviews in future updates.
  • Translation Challenges: Translating content into multiple languages is a significant task, even with AI assistance, but we’re committed to making Extract Maker globally accessible.
  • AI-Generated Content: Some material overviews, particularly for less-studied biomaterials, may contain inaccuracies, which we’re refining to ensure scientific accuracy.

Extract Maker is an experimental guidance tool, not a definitive reference. We encourage users to cross-reference biomaterials with other resources and consult a healthcare professional before using extracts for medical purposes, as Extract Maker is not intended to replace professional medical advice.
